British cyclist Josh Edmondson loses contract with Team Sky

It’s been a disappointing phase for the young British professional road racing cyclist, and now, he has lost his contract with the Team Sky.

Josh Edmondson had impressed the Sky with his performance in 2012 Tour of Britain. Team Sky spent two seasons with Edmondson, but to their disappointment, he wasn’t able to keep up the expectations, hence, was let go after the end of the contract.

The decision to keep him out of contract, came after the Sky realized that Edmondson does not fit and co-operate with the team’s highly structured program. Referring to the reasons that got Edmondson out of contract, the performance manager at Team Sky, Rod Ellingworth commented, “He is talented, but there is a lot of talent out there and this isn’t a conveyor belt”.

Further, Ellingworth mentioned how his disorganized behavior, lack of professionalism, and poor communication prepared the ground for his release.

Apparently, in life of any true sportsman, there is no space for indiscipline and there is no successful future without commitment to the sport.

Edmondson has still got a lifeline at Australia’s Herad Sun Tour, scheduled from February 4-8. He’ll be riding for a Great Britain squad along with other featured Olympic Academy riders like Scott Davies, Gabriel Cullaigh, Chris Lawless, Jaek Kelly and Academy bike Grant Ferguson.

While commenting on the prospects and opportunities of Edmondson with GB, Keith Lambert, Great Britain’s U23 Academy manager said, “He’s out of contract but he’s got this opportunity now with GB to put himself back in the shop window, to put himself back on the map”

We have reasons to believe that this young cyclist has hopes of making it out of his slip-ups that have compelled him out of the previous professional contract.

There is no news about his reaction to the situation as he ignored talking to media, but he was spotted training in Calpe, Spain with Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee, Olympic triathletes.  

Well, in such situations, conversing with media can amplify the stress; there’s nothing wrong then in staying silent and practicing hard for the future races.
